Kind of upset that Gateway Park location is closing in Kitchener

I can see why you guys are moving over to the Sunrise Shopping Center, but the Gateway location is just closer to my house. I hate driving to the other side, and the Sunrise Shopping Center is a nutzoid parking lot with all of the (competitor) crazed shoppers.

I guess I have to go to Cambridge now or the Waterloo one which is closer to work, but still....can't you keep both open? I am sure you would still make money.

When are the new ipods coming in?

Hi,

It really depends on what you're using it for. If you're looking for something that'll get the job done such as surfing the internet, watching movies, and word processing, this is a great computer.

If you're looking for something very portable, maybe a 13" laptop or a netbook may be more up your alley. I use a 15.6" computer and the size is perfect for my coffee table and seldom times, taking it out of the house. If you want something for gaming, you may want to look at a desktop solution. Overall, the 15-16" range is a good midpoint.

Hardware is the other thing. This computer is lpenty fast for what you'll likely use it for. If you're looking to run some insane computer games or do some heavy video editing, I would consider something a little more spec'd out. You can always get a RAM upgrade, but look at what video card you're dealing with.

Back to my original point... if you're looking for basic functions on a computer, this is more than enough to get you through the daily grind. Looking for something more portable? Consider a smaller option. Looking to game/video edit, look for a fully loaded computer and even a desktop (or Alienware) choice.

Hi there,

You may actually want to look into how many dead pixels constitute a faulty device. Many manufacturers have a specific number that are required before they will replace the device.

Also, I'd suggest taking a printout of the info that shows that dead pixels are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. That can help you proceed. And if you have another Future Shop in your region, try going to that one. You don't actually have to go to the original store the device was purchased at.

I've tried almost everything, and really feel like crying right about now...I've got the network set up, but the pro keep saying 'self assigned IP address' and when I run diagnostics it comes up everything passing cept the IP address, and server.. What can I do to fix this...Talked to telus rep and they did nothing because the modem/router combo works on my pc laptop, just not the brand spanking new mac book pro. Is there a simple way to fix this? I've been in prefrences, chose 'using DHCP (think it's what it's called) and it gave me the wrong IP address...

HELP!!!!!

Ps: please low techy terms, I'm simple :)

Gonna use it for gaming mainly. I know there are differences between a TV and a monitor. I tried connecting my comp on my 52" 120hz HDTV by HDMI and it doesnt look that good. I read good things about 120hz desktop monitor like everything feels smoother from games to the desktop, Moving the mouse or windows around have fewer artifacts, No tearing in games, No need for v-sync,
Games do not have to play at 120fps to notice the improvement, No mouse lag, CRT-like in speed.

Some TVs (e.g. Plasma) will have a break-in period where the picture characteristics will change over time. So, if you get a technician to calibrate your brand new set, it may need to be redone after the break-in period.

Unfortunately there is no way of accurately answering your question without knowing what you want, what you need and what you are willing to spend.

- Do you need data, or just talk/text?

- How many minutes do you use per month?

- How much are you willing to spend per month?

- Which area(s) to spend most of the time in? (Some vendors have good coverage at certain areas, some don't)

- Do you have existing cell phone services? How about cable TV or home phone service? (If you do, you may be able to get additional discounts by choosing the same vendor)

I purchased a monitor - HP 2159m about 3 months ago - i have to reset it to factory settings every time I turn the monitor off because the color goes red or it goes really dark and I have to adjust it every day. The monitor will not keep the settings.

Yes you can buy without contract by paying full price. But note that even if you pay full price at FS, the phone is still SIM-locked to the phone vendor according to a FS rep posted here. In that case, buy the phone at Apple Stores instead, as you'll get an unlocked phone.

If you buy a subsidized version (from Rogers, Bell, etc. and their dealers - that includes Futureshop) the device is SIM-locked. Which means you will only be able to use the SIM card that tied to the vendor (Rogers, Bell, etc.) So while you are able to use the phone in Italy, you will be paying expensive roaming charges to Rogers/Bell/etc. use the device over there.

If you want to use a SIM card from an Italian phone company while you are travelling, you need to buy an unlocked version of the iPhone at the Apple Stores at unsubsidized (full) price. According to the previous thread on this forum from a FS rep, FS does not sell unlocked version of the iPhone - only Apple Stores.

The Samsung PN50C8000 plasma is on sale right now and not a single FutureShop store has one. Not only that, I went into the local store to see if the warehouse has some and no, not a single one.

Why have a sale and promote a product that no one can actually buy? Sure, you can't control what the manufacturer produces. However, you can control what goes on sale.

As it turns out, this happened to be the TV I decided to buy after doing a lot of research. My only option was to get the next model down - which was in the warehouse.

iOS 4.2 (being released in November) will have built-in wireless printing. The exact technical details have not been released though (ie. which devices are supported, etc.)
