The best way to make a memory last is to print off your pictures. Too often we bury them in our directories or Facebook and never look at them again. Vancouver 2010 has a great way for you to keep the memory of Vancouver's Games around forever. Read more...
So it's now March 9, 2010 and after 4.5 years of development, Final Fantasy XIII has finally arrived -- and it's no longer a PS3 exclusive. Read more...
Word is this week pre-orders for the iPad will start, with an April delivery. Well, if you're in the States. In Canada Techcrunch is saying late April for us. Myself I'm still debating about a new phone or an iPad (at least the phone I'd like is getting good reviews). So instead of kvetching about not having a cool phone or being able to pre-order an iPad here are a couple videos that we'll all like...
First the iPad commercial from last night:
And a Stark reminder that Iron Man is coming:
Hmm, I wonder if Tony will put an iPad into his office...
Ah yes, the Apple vs Microsoft rivalry is heating up again after this weekend's 'leak' (strategic release?) to Engadget of all sorts of interesting Courier tidbits. But what wasn't said? Are they really aiming at the same audience? Why did Microsoft name it after a font? Read more...
The Vancouver Film School, host of the upcoming Game Design Expo that I wrote about in January, have announced it is once again offering a $30,000 Women in Games Scholarship. This is second year in a row the educational institution has presented this outstanding funding opportunity -- the first of its kind in the world -- to aspiring female game designers. The winner of the scholarship will receive full funding to attend VFS's acclaimed one-year Game Design program, which covers all aspects of game design. Read more...
It's Oscar night! The Barbara Walters special is on in the background and I should probably be spending my time thinking about who is going to win this award or that award, but I'm not really paying attention (other than hoping In the Loop picks up Best Adapted Screenplay) because instead I'm just trawling my way through my e-mail press releases, and the first one that caught my eye--one which I notice hasn't already been covered here--is that Valve has announced Portal 2. It's Beta vs VHS or Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD all over again as two competing styles of coffee making innovation hit the shelves. Do you go K-Cup or T-Disc? Read more...
It was in my coffee this morning, Zach. I saw it clear as day. I poured the milk in and there it was--you were going into a shop and purchasing a copy of the recently released thriller video game, Deadly Premonition. Because you read about it on the Future Shop Tech Blog and couldn't resist. Oh, and there was more. The game was so awesome your head exploded. A deadly premonition indeed. Read more...
Canada will play host to a brand spankin' new award show called the Canadian Video Game and Digital Arts Awards, taking place in Vancouver, BC, on May 5, 2010 at the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre. Am I excited? You bet! Read more...
I think Google's key strategy in decimating Microsoft is to find all the things people hate most about Windows and MSFT products and build or buy better versions. And give them away for free. Read more...
In which I defend yet destroy Roman Polanski, compare Kim Cattrall to Keanu Reeves, and somehow shoehorn two Star Wars references into a review about a movie that had nothing to do with Star Wars. Han Shot First. Oh wait, that's three! Read more...
"How far are you willing to go to save someone you love?" Heavy Rain begins with a very emotionally charged, private question, and no matter how you respond one thing is assured -- your experience will be distinctly unique. You see, the PS3 exclusive game which developer Quantic Dream describes as "interactive fiction" is premised on the idea that we should be allowed to make choices -- of the tenuous and the momentous kind -- and face the consequences, be them good or bad. This is a game about people, about relationships and about the feelings that drive us to be people we want to be. Read more...
The hot topic online today is that senior people at Google are predicting the end of the desktop PC in three years. Google is betting that better, faster, more capable smart phones are the answer. I might agree that a big desktop box is a dying breed over portable devices, but I'm not willing to ditch my keyboard just yet. Read more...
